Canty Financial Management is an independent, family-owned, SEC-registered investment advisory firm. We’ve spent more than 39 years helping individuals and families make confident long-term financial decisions.
We serve over 200 families and manage more than $250 million in client assets, with offices in Ballston Spa, New York and Naples, Florida.
Our firm is structured around multi-generational, owner-led advisory relationships. We operate as a fee-only fiduciary — intentionally built for continuity, accountability, and long-term alignment rather than volume, sales targets, or short-term incentives.
Canty Financial Management was founded in the late 1980s by Bill Canty, while he was working at the New York State Office of the Comptroller.
Early in his career, Bill noticed a persistent pattern: investment decisions made without understanding tax consequences, and tax decisions made without understanding portfolio impact. The result was rarely dramatic failure. It was quiet erosion — driven by misaligned decisions, avoidable taxes, and reactive behavior.
Rather than accept a model where advice lived in silos, he built a firm around the idea that investment strategy, financial planning, and tax decisions should be evaluated as parts of a single system.
That philosophy still defines how we operate. Clients don’t have to act as the intermediary between their advisor and their tax professional, trying to relay what one said to tell the other. We coordinate those decisions in one place, so nothing gets missed and tradeoffs are fully visible.
The firm is led by Bill Canty, CPA, CFP®, and his sons Ed Canty, CFP®, and Joe Canty, CFP®. Shared ownership across generations ensures continuity and aligns long-term advice with long-term responsibility.
Clients work directly with advisors who are owners of the firm. Our advisory team also includes experienced tax professionals who integrate tax preparation and planning into the broader wealth management process.
Canty Financial Management is an independent, fee-only fiduciary firm. We do not sell financial products, receive commissions, or maintain affiliations with fund companies or broker-dealers. Our advice is objective, transparent, and aligned solely with our clients’ interests.
This structure also means we are selective. Long-term success requires alignment — and we are comfortable saying no when that alignment isn’t present.
Not every advisory firm is right for every client. The right fit matters.
